Fitness has always been a part of my life and I thought I was in pretty good shape until I realized I wasn’t. Life got busy, I ended up gaining a lot of weight, and I was finding that activities were getting more and more difficult. Being in my 40’s, I knew that if I didn’t make my health and fitness a priority again, I wasn’t going to be able to do the things I love to do. The first day I walked into CrossFit Gold Rush and did my first class, my first WOD, I was in love. I had no idea what I was headed for or if I was even going to be able to do the workouts…but I did. The reason I did is because the coaches tailored the moves around my fitness and ability level so that it was challenging for fitness gains, but because injury prevention is their first priority, it was not beyond my ability.
Once I finished the Beginning CrossFit Course, I began going 4-5 days per week. Not only did I love being in that encouraging and supportive environment, but I began seeing gains quickly. Within a few months I had lost weight, gotten stronger, and my abilities for movements sharpened. I have worked out and ran for years, but I have gotten stronger, more confident, bolder, and more able in the last six months of doing CrossFit than I ever have.
I have never been so challenged, but I have also never been so fit and felt so accomplished. I knew I would love the fitness aspect of CrossFit, but I had no idea that I was going to love the CrossFit community and my coaches just as much. Each of these aspects are the reasons I continue to strive toward and accomplish my CrossFit goals.
